Hiking for Health and History - Lower Ottawa River Region |
The website is designed to showcase 81 historic places spanning across 19 towns along the Ottawa River from Pointe-Fortune/Chute-à-Blondeau to Rockland on the South side and from Thurso to Carillon on the North side. The site is intended to increase physical activity in various age groups while increasing an interest in local/regional history as well as recreational venues such as hiking trails, cycling paths, ecological sites and national parks. The site will encourage tourism in the region, thereby showcasing local histories and enterprises such as bed & breakfasts, motels and restaurants. It will address a gap with regards to information available on recreational activities and historic places within the Prescott-Russell region. These historic locations on this site have been researched, compiled and maintained by Friends of the Macdonell-Williamson House Inc. The project was funded in part by Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation.
